There is a dreadful Hell
and everything pains;
There sinners must with devils dwell
In darkness, Fire, and Chains.
-Isaac Watts, Divine and Moral Songs for children
Formerly a young half-elf, she was born in a
land far from her present home in the realms
of Alanthia, in a humble place known as Asgard.
There she lived peacefully with her human
father and her beloved younger sister Silu.
Upon coming of age, she left her family in
search of a place to further her studies in
the art of healing. Kindly gnomes in a remote
village directed her to a temple. There, she
earned the class of a cleric and became
acquainted with a presence she had sensed since her early
childhood, the gentle Goddess Ilya.
Shortly after becoming a cleric, a halfling monk who taught
her wanted her to himself. She objected to these feelings
but she felt obligated to him and so did wed him. One day,
out of the blue he asked her if she loved him. Being honest,
Lilu said she didn't and she never had. He was so infuriated
that he cursed her to never be able to feel loved or needed.
This curse swiftly took effect because she was a weak frail
creature and hadn't learned yet how to defend herself. Lilu
lived out her days healing and helping others but soon realized
something was missing... she became so sad and lonely that she
felt there was no reason to live. She seeked out a bridge and
threw herself off of it... she made no attempt to stay above
the surface.
Now she is a walking spectre with a lost look about her. She
is a mystery to most other wraiths because they can still see
an innocence about her that is uncommon among them. Most
mortals feel sorry for her until they see... her eyes. They
reflect an understanding of life and the world that they will
never possibly understand. They then realize it is HER who
pities them. She pities them for being so weak to their human
(or human-like) emotions... or maybe it's jealousy. Also...
there is something else that glimmers faintly in her eyes.
Something that goes along with the wisdom and knowledge that
few ghosts know of... that something is fear.
